3 Years Flea Market Hall of the Children's Cancer Aid Haid/Ansfelden

A place close to the heart grows: Review and outlook with chairman Gerhard Baumberger

In March 2023, the Children's Cancer Aid Haid/Ansfelden opened its new flea market hall – built by PEM as a heartfelt project. Three years later, the hall is much more than just a place to sell goods: it is a lively meeting point for the community and an important source of income for a valuable social institution. Chairman Gerhard Baumberger looks back and ahead in the interview.

A meeting place with heart

According to Baumberger, the development since the opening has been extremely positive. The construction of the hall has paid off and was an investment that was worthwhile in every respect. Every Tuesday and Friday, the flea market opens its doors – and now attracts a loyal regular clientele. „The flea market has become an important meeting point. Many regular customers come every Tuesday and Friday. It's simply a nice get-together – and everyone knows everyone,“ says chairman Gerhard Baumberger happily.

Income for an important cause

The proceeds from the flea market operation go directly to supporting children with cancer and their families. This year, 30,000 EUR have already been donated to the St. Anna Children's Cancer Research and another 30,000 EUR to the Children's Cancer Aid of Upper Austria. The operation is made possible by six volunteers – chairman Baumberger and his colleague Andrea are always on site.

Big plans for the future

The success story of the Children's Cancer Aid Haid/Ansfelden continues: a new Children's Cancer Aid sports and leisure park is planned on the former football field next to the hall. Small football, football golf, ball games and possibly a trampoline room are to be created – complemented by changing rooms and storage space. Construction will take place on approx. 200 m². Construction is planned to start this year, and full operation is scheduled for 2027. And once again, PEM is involved as the hall builder. „Because PEM also convinced us with the flea market hall – and above all, because PEM is very generous in its support.“

Donations welcome!

The Children's Cancer Aid is still happy to receive donations in kind: especially sought after are toys, children's items, kitchen appliances, dishes, well-preserved shoes, as-new bedding, and electronic devices. Donations can be dropped off on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Wasserwerkstraße 49, 4053 Haid/Ansfelden. The flea market opens at 12 p.m.
