News from the group of companies: Glass roof renovation by the Bavarian State Parliament
Complex tasks require creative solutions and a well-coordinated team. The Zeman Group once again impresses with professional competence: Waagner Biro steel and glass GmbH was awarded the contract for the renovation of the plenary hall roof by the Bavarian State Parliament. The existing roof was installed by another specialist company as part of a conversion 16 years ago. Unfortunately, there are already leaks that need to be fixed. The work, amounting to approximately five million euros, began in April 2022 and is expected to continue until December 2022. The maintenance contract, which guarantees all inspections and maintenance work for the next 21 years, was particularly convincing.
Complex construction project with its own sealing system
The renovation work for the new glass roof presents challenges, especially in logistics and project coordination. This is because parliamentary sessions continue as usual throughout the entire process, while other construction projects are also being carried out at the same time. To protect the plenary hall and its suspended glass ceiling from construction dust, Waagner Biro steel and glass GmbH installed an additional protective ceiling for the duration of the work.
After detailed planning with partner companies, the steel-glass specialist has so far completed the construction of the access scaffolding, the installation of a weather protection roof, and the dismantling of the existing glass roof. Since July, the team has been working on fire protection for the remaining primary steel structure and will then focus on the new roof for the plenary hall. A special sealing system has already been developed for this purpose, and all performance tests have been successfully completed. As part of these tests, young engineers in training were able to apply their theoretical knowledge directly in practice. After all, such a complex project requires special airtightness, resistance to driving rain, and stability against wind loads.
